Birth Doula FAQs

What is a birth doula?

A birth doula is a trained professional that supports a birthing parent and birthing partner (if applicable) during pregnancy, labor and birth.

As a birth doula, I provide mothers and their birthing partner support in the form of education, non-biased resourcing, practical labor & birth assistance as well as emotional & mental reassurance throughout pregnancy, labor, birth and postpartum.

As a certified birth doula, I am NOT a medical professional but rather work alongside healthcare providers to ensure the best possible experience for parents welcoming a new addition to their family!

A birth doula works collaboratively with the mother to ensure that she feels supported, prepared, empowered and confident heading into the life changing, sacred experience of labor and birth! Created sacred spaces is my specialty and I view it as an honor to support those moments for my clients.

What does a birth doula actually do?

My main focus as a birth doula is to provide support to the birthing parent and birthing partner during labor and delivery. Support may come:

  • physically, through breathing techniques, massage, positioning insight & guidance, comfort measures

  • mentally, helping parents to stay calm, grounded & focused

  • emotionally, offering reassurance & encouragement

  • providing insight and encouragement to assist you in advocating for yourself and your ideal desired labor and birthing experience.

Throughout your pregnancy, as you approach your baby’s birth day, I will be available as a sounding board for non-biased information research and a hub of professional pre & postnatal resources. Together we will collaborate to ensure that you feel informed, confident and prepared for your labor and birth with a personalized-to-you birth plan.
